Website Homepages vs Inner Pages vs Landing Pages

Understanding the distinctions between homepages, inner pages, and landing pages is fundamental to effective corporate website design. Each serves a unique purpose and demands different structural approaches to maximize user engagement and achieve business objectives.

Characteristics and Core Differences

Homepages serve as the main entry point and digital storefront of your website. They provide an overview of your entire organization, featuring primary navigation, key messages, and pathways to all major sections. Think of them as the table of contents and welcome mat combined.

Inner pages deliver specific content aligned with particular topics, services, or information categories. These pages dive deeper into details that the homepage only introduces. They maintain consistent navigation but focus on singular subjects rather than broad overviews.

Landing pages are standalone, conversion-focused pages designed for specific campaigns or objectives. They typically minimize navigation and distractions, channeling visitors toward one clear call-to-action – whether that’s making a purchase, downloading a resource, or submitting contact information.

The Magazine Analogy

The relationship between homepages and inner pages mirrors that of magazine covers and interior pages. A magazine cover showcases the most compelling headlines, striking imagery, and a glimpse of what’s inside – enticing readers to explore further. Similarly, your homepage highlights your strongest offerings and most important messages, guiding visitors to relevant sections.

Inner pages, like magazine articles, provide the substance. They deliver the detailed information, in-depth explanations, and comprehensive content that visitors came looking for. While the cover (homepage) must appeal broadly and create immediate impact, the interior pages (inner pages) can afford to be more focused and specialized.

Layout and Structural Differences

Homepage Design Priorities:

Prominent branding and value proposition above the fold

Multiple entry points to various site sections

Diverse content blocks showcasing different aspects of the business

Strong visual hierarchy to guide attention

Balance between engagement and navigation

Inner Page Design Priorities:

Content-focused layout with clear readability

Consistent but less prominent navigation

Related content suggestions and internal linking

Longer-form content structure

Supporting elements like sidebars or breadcrumbs

We design these differently because user intent varies dramatically. Homepage visitors are explorers deciding where to go; inner page visitors are seekers consuming specific information.

The homepage must seduce and direct, while inner pages must inform and satisfy.

Landing Pages: The E-commerce Exception

Landing pages find their primary home in e-commerce and product-focused campaigns. Online retailers create dedicated landing pages for promotional campaigns, seasonal sales, or product launches – each optimized for conversion with minimal distractions. These pages often arrive via paid advertising, email campaigns, or social media promotions.

Corporate websites in Cambodia and Southeast Asia typically take a different approach. Rather than creating multiple landing pages, they concentrate marketing efforts through their homepage, which serves as the primary advertising platform. This makes sense for service-based businesses where the goal is brand awareness and contact generation rather than immediate transactions.

However, some forward-thinking corporate sites use landing pages strategically for specific campaigns – perhaps for event registrations, whitepaper downloads, or specialized service inquiries – separating these conversion-focused moments from the main website experience.

Real-World Example: Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola’s website demonstrates all three page types effectively:

Homepage (coca-cola.com): Features bold brand messaging, rotating campaigns, product highlights, sustainability initiatives, and clear navigation to all company divisions. It’s visually rich, brand-forward, and designed to accommodate diverse visitor interests.

Inner Pages: Sections like “Our Company > History” or “Brands > Product Catalog” provide detailed information with consistent navigation and focused content. These pages serve researchers, investors, consumers, and journalists seeking specific information.

Landing Pages: Coca-Cola creates campaign-specific landing pages for promotions like “Share a Coke” or seasonal competitions. These pages strip away standard navigation, focus entirely on the campaign, and drive toward participation or purchase.

Strategic Takeaway

For corporate websites in Southeast Asia, success lies in understanding when to use each page type. Your homepage must work harder as your primary marketing platform. Inner pages should be optimized for information discovery and SEO. Landing pages should be reserved for high-priority campaigns where conversion focus justifies the separate experience.

The key is intentional design – each page type serving its purpose without confusion or overlap, creating a cohesive user experience that guides visitors from awareness to action.

How to Keep Your Corporate Website Up-to-Date and Why You Should Do It

Your corporate website serves as your business’s digital storefront, operating around the clock to represent your brand to potential customers, partners, and stakeholders. Yet many businesses across Southeast Asia treat their websites like printed brochures – creating them once and forgetting about them. This approach can be costly, particularly in a competitive market where digital presence increasingly determines business success.

Understanding What “Up-to-Date” Really Means

When we talk about keeping a website current, we’re addressing multiple layers of maintenance that work together to create a cohesive, effective online presence. Think of your website like a physical office building: you wouldn’t let the paint peel, the furniture break, or important documents gather dust. Your digital presence deserves the same attention.

Content freshness forms the foundation of an updated website. This means regularly reviewing and refreshing your company information, services, team profiles, and news sections. In Cambodia’s dynamic business environment, where companies frequently expand services or adapt to new market conditions, outdated content can quickly make your business appear stagnant or unreliable.

Technical maintenance represents another crucial dimension. This includes updating your website’s underlying software, security patches, and ensuring compatibility with new web browsers and devices. Consider how quickly technology evolves – what worked perfectly on desktop computers five years ago may now frustrate mobile users who comprise the majority of internet traffic in Southeast Asia.

The Hidden Costs of Neglect

An outdated website creates a cascade of problems that extend far beyond aesthetics. When potential customers encounter broken links, outdated contact information, or pages that load slowly on their smartphones, they form immediate negative impressions about your business’s professionalism and reliability.

Search engines like Google actively penalize websites that haven’t been updated regularly, pushing them lower in search results. This means fewer people discover your business organically, forcing you to rely more heavily on expensive paid advertising to maintain visibility. In Cambodia’s increasingly competitive digital marketplace, businesses that maintain fresh, regularly updated websites enjoy significant advantages in search rankings.

Security vulnerabilities present perhaps the most serious risk of all. Outdated websites become attractive targets for cybercriminals, potentially exposing your business and customers to data breaches, malware, or other security threats. For businesses handling customer information or processing online transactions, a security incident can devastate reputation and trigger costly legal complications.

Creating Your Maintenance Framework

Successful website maintenance requires systematic thinking rather than sporadic attention. Begin by establishing regular review cycles that match your business rhythm. Monthly content reviews ensure your information stays current, while quarterly technical assessments help identify and address potential issues before they impact users.

Content management becomes much easier when you assign specific responsibilities within your team. Designate someone to monitor and update company news, another person to review service descriptions, and establish clear processes for updating staff information when team changes occur. This distributed approach prevents maintenance from becoming overwhelming while ensuring nothing gets overlooked.

Technical maintenance requires more specialised attention but follows predictable patterns. Schedule regular backups, update security software promptly, and monitor your website’s performance metrics. Many businesses in Cambodia benefit from partnering with local web development professionals who understand both international best practices and regional market conditions.

The Cambodian Context: Opportunities and Challenges

Cambodia’s digital transformation presents unique opportunities for businesses that embrace proactive website maintenance. As internet penetration continues growing and mobile usage dominates online behavior, companies with well-maintained, mobile-friendly websites gain competitive advantages over those clinging to outdated approaches.

The rise of social commerce and digital payment systems in Cambodia also creates new possibilities for integration with your website. Regular updates allow you to incorporate these emerging technologies smoothly, positioning your business at the forefront of digital trends rather than scrambling to catch up.

However, the rapid pace of change also means that websites can become obsolete more quickly than in more stable markets. What impressed visitors six months ago may now seem dated compared to newer competitors. This reality makes consistent maintenance not just beneficial but essential for maintaining market position.

Measuring Success and Continuous Improvement

Effective website maintenance extends beyond simply keeping things working – it involves continuously improving user experience and business outcomes. Monitor key metrics like page loading speeds, mobile usability scores, and user engagement patterns to understand how your maintenance efforts translate into real business value.

Regular maintenance also creates opportunities to analyse user behaviour and optimise your website’s effectiveness. When you review content monthly, you can identify which pages generate the most interest, which services customers inquire about most frequently, and where potential improvements might yield the greatest returns.

Your website represents a significant investment in your business’s future. Like any valuable asset, it requires ongoing care and attention to deliver optimal returns. In Cambodia’s competitive business environment, companies that embrace systematic website maintenance position themselves for sustained digital success, while those that neglect this responsibility risk falling behind competitors who understand the importance of staying current in our rapidly evolving digital world.

Does AI change the way we search the internet and how does it impact SEO?

The evolution of search engines with AI technology

The introduction of AI algorithms in search engines marks a significant shift in how information is retrieved online[1]. Traditional search engines primarily relied on keyword matching and basic ranking systems, which often led to less relevant results for users. However, AI-enabled search engines utilize advanced algorithms designed to identify user intent, which allows for a deeper understanding of what users are truly seeking[2].

This evolution has substantial implications for search engine optimization (SEO), as marketers must adapt their strategies to align with these new technologies. By focusing on user intent rather than merely optimizing for specific keywords, businesses can enhance their online visibility and drive more organic traffic to their websites.

One of the most notable improvements brought about by AI technology is the enhancement of search accuracy and relevance[3]. As AI systems process vast amounts of data, they become increasingly proficient at delivering results that align closely with user queries. This is not merely a matter of improving how results are ranked; it involves understanding context, semantics, and even user behavior. Consequently, AI-driven search engines can provide more precise answers, reducing the time users spend sifting through irrelevant content.

This transformation is crucial for businesses as it emphasizes the need for high-quality, relevant content that meets user needs effectively, thereby reshaping SEO strategies to be more content-focused.

Furthermore, AI technology is enabling personalized search experiences that cater to individual user preferences[4]. With the capability of analyzing user behavior and past interactions, AI-powered search engines can tailor search results to reflect a user’s unique interests and needs. This personalization fosters a more engaging and satisfying search experience, encouraging users to return for future queries. As a result, marketers are challenged to create targeted SEO campaigns that resonate with their audience on a deeper level.

By leveraging data analytics and AI insights, businesses can refine their content strategies, ensuring they not only attract but also retain organic traffic, thus maximizing their online presence in an increasingly competitive digital landscape[5].

The impact of AI on user behavior and search patterns

The advent of artificial intelligence has led to notable changes in user expectations and behavior when it comes to searching the internet[1]. Users now anticipate more personalized and accurate search results, which has fundamentally shifted how they interact with search engines. This transformation is primarily driven by AI algorithms that analyze vast amounts of data to tailor search experiences to individual preferences and behaviors[4].

As a result, users are increasingly demanding a more intuitive search experience that goes beyond simple keyword matching to encompass context, intent, and relevance. This evolution in user behavior necessitates that businesses and content creators adapt their strategies to meet these heightened expectations, thus reshaping the landscape of search engine optimization (SEO).

The rise of voice search and conversational queries represents another significant shift in user behavior influenced by AI[6]. With the proliferation of voice-activated devices and virtual assistants, users are increasingly opting for hands-free interactions when seeking information. This trend has not only altered the types of queries users pose but has also impacted how search engines process and respond to these inquiries.

AI plays a crucial role in enabling voice search by analyzing large volumes of data to identify patterns and understand the nuances of human language, including slang and emotional context[7]. Consequently, businesses must optimize their content for voice search, ensuring that it is accessible and relevant to these conversational queries to remain competitive in the evolving search landscape[8].

AI also influences content consumption patterns, fundamentally changing how users discover and engage with information online[9]. With AI-powered search engines offering smarter interactions and personalized results, users are more likely to be exposed to content that aligns with their interests and needs[10]. This shift necessitates that content creators focus not only on traditional SEO practices but also on developing high-quality, engaging content that resonates with their target audience.

By leveraging AI to enhance content creation and optimization, businesses can improve their online visibility and drive targeted traffic more effectively[11]. As AI continues to evolve, it will further refine how content is ranked and consumed, emphasizing the importance of adapting to these new dynamics to maintain relevance in the digital landscape.

The evolving role of SEO in an AI-driven landscape

To thrive in an AI-driven landscape, it is essential for SEO strategies to adapt to the evolving technologies that artificial intelligence brings to the table[3]. AI is fundamentally reshaping search engine optimization by enhancing the way content is created, optimized, and ranked[9]. For instance, AI-powered tools can automate keyword research, analyze search intent, and optimize content more efficiently than traditional methods[11].

This shift not only streamlines the SEO process but also allows marketers to focus on creating more user-centric content that aligns with the needs and preferences of their audience. Consequently, adapting SEO strategies to integrate AI technologies is no longer optional; it is a vital step for any business aiming to maintain visibility in an increasingly competitive digital space.

In this new era of SEO, the importance of quality content and semantic search has become paramount[12]. With advancements in AI, search algorithms are now prioritizing context and relevance, meaning that high-quality, informative content is more critical than ever[13]. As AI continues to enhance search algorithms, it is becoming increasingly adept at understanding user intent, which requires marketers to craft content that resonates with the specific queries and needs of users[14].

This evolution necessitates a shift from solely focusing on keyword optimization to ensuring that content is comprehensive, engaging, and truly valuable to readers. By doing so, businesses can improve their chances of being favored by search engines and reaching their target audience effectively.

Looking ahead, the integration of AI in SEO is likely to drive significant trends that marketers must be prepared for[11]. AI’s predictive capabilities enable marketers to anticipate trends and adapt their SEO strategies proactively[13]. As AI continues to revolutionize content creation and optimization techniques, marketers will need to stay informed about emerging technologies and adapt their practices accordingly[10].

The future of SEO is set to change dramatically, and understanding the nuances of AI’s influence will be crucial for businesses aiming to achieve long-term success in digital marketing[15]. By embracing these changes, businesses can not only enhance their SEO efforts but also ensure they remain competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Leveraging Your Corporate Website to Build Your Online Presence

Online marketing is a great opportunity for new or established businesses to build their brand and boost financial growth. An online presence represents an individual or business entity on the internet.

The stronger your company’s online presence, the more engagement and visibility you will command across all digital channels, including websites, email, and social media. When you establish an online presence, you can now identify and focus on platforms that are most effective for your business. Here are a few tips to help you use your website to build an online presence.

Target and Retain Customers on Social Media

Social media usage is widespread with billions of social network users across the world. However, you do not have to be present on every social site but focus on those that are popular with your target market. Businesses should register on all social sites relevant to their respective sector to ensure that no one uses their name on other platforms. Having a presence in the most popular platforms that your target market is using will help grow your online presence and tremendously boost your business.

Build An Online Store

If you want to sell products online, you should have an e-commerce solution. You can choose to build an e-commerce platform on your website by incorporating e-commerce tools, use e-commerce packages from web hosts or sign on with hosted providers like BigCommerce or Shopify, or create a store or stores of mega virtual marketplaces like eBay, Etsy, Walmart, and Amazon. You can also choose to use all these options to have a better online presence and widen the market for your goods and services. With most consumers browsing and making purchases on their smartphones, you should ensure your corporate website and online stores are mobile-friendly.

Master SEO

With algorithms changing daily, search engine optimization is one of the best tactics that businesses can use to build an online presence. Mastering SEO is the first step to showing up online when consumers are searching. SEO can either be off-site SEO or on-site SEO. On-site SEO deals with content, where you use keyword research, including external and internal links and develop educational content that matches the search queries of your target audiences. Conversely, off-site SEO pays attention to the more technical things such as ensuring your website is correctly set up, loads quickly, and has a simple URL structuring. Off-site SEO also includes using backlinks to build credibility and optimizing off-page and on-page SEO using website audit tools and SEO tools.

Build Brand Awareness Using Content

Content is still an essential element for businesses that want to build an online presence. The more relevant content you create and post online or on your website, the more opportunities your target consumers will have to discover your business. Ensure you continuously add content to your social channels and corporate website. You can also do guest posts for websites that your target customers use to help spread brand awareness.

Ensure Your Business is Updated on All Online Directories

Today, customers increasingly rely on online business directories, which is an online listing of businesses to discover services and products they need. You can begin by claiming your free listing on Google My Business. Your business may have a listing already, but if you have not claimed it, then it may be incomplete or not correct. You can use Google My Business data to create listings on other local maps and search directories. You can start with the top online directories such as Google My Business, Yahoo, Bing Places, Foursquare, and Yelp. Some industries may have their own online directory such as TripAdvisor and Houzz.

Be Active Online

For you to show up online, you need to be active online. This includes regularly posting on your owned properties, including social media accounts and your website. In addition, you can also be involved in other areas as well. For instance, you can engage your subscribers and followers on social media. If there is anything that everyone is talking about in your niche industry, ensure that you engage in the conversation.

Use Online Reviews to Convert More Customers

Ensure you claim your listing on online ratings and review websites. Most consumers discover new businesses when looking up other businesses. These websites help to build your online presence because consumers will frequently refer to these websites. You should take the time to respond to all reviews across different platforms, good or bad because your customers want to see you engaging with both negative and positive feedback to have more confidence in your ability to offer excellent customer service.

Build An Email List

One of the best ways of building your online presence is creating and growing an email list. An email list will help you engage with potential and current customers on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. To grow your email list, you should create gated content that users can sign up to receive. You can also utilize a call-to-action or CTA on your social media pages and website to promote your email newsletter. With newsletters, you can collect leads and emails and show you the customers and leads interested in your content. You can also utilize tools in your content management system to develop popups or slide-in CTAs designed for collecting email addresses.

An online presence means how easy it is to find a company or brand online. Because consumer behaviour has transformed over the years, businesses need to meet them online where they spend most of their time. An online presence is crucial for building your company’s reputation, providing visibility to your services or users, and increasing brand awareness when consumers are searching for businesses like yours.

Always remember that building a solid online presence needs effort, but will pay off over time with better brand awareness and increased sales in your industry.

SEO: Setting the Record Straight

When working with websites, one of the most misunderstood, misinterpreted and widely abused terms is “SEO”, which stands for “Search Engine Optimisation”. Just enter those 3 letters in a search window, either on search engines or YouTube, and you’ll get links by the thousands. Most of them sell courses or snake-oil miracle cures for getting your website on “top of search results pages”.

The problem is, the internet is not working the same way as in the late 1990s anymore, and search engines are far more sophisticated than you might believe. In other words: don’t think you’ll be going to trick them with mediocre content and successfully rank a poorly designed, slow-loading and interest-lacking website! Content is King, now more than ever, and the only way for your website to rank is to prove that it brings something valuable into the ocean of already published pages. In other words, your website needs to prove it has some authority in its own specific sector – before even thinking about keywords.

It is also important to note that parameters are completely different for e-commerce sites and corporate ones or blogs that are more focused on content than articles for sale. It will be much more challenging to rank when selling yet another “whitening lotion” worldwide than when offering “website design” services in a particular region, as this website does, for instance.

We specialise in corporate websites for businesses, and we are often asked the same questions when initiating the design process with new clients. Here are the basics.

Go to the source: Search Engines are your friends!

Your business website and search engines (ex. Google and Bing) have common interests: you want your potential clients and prospects to easily find your website when searching for something that relates to your business, and search engines want to serve the public with the most accurate search results in relation to their query.

That’s why your best source of information will always be provided by search engines.
If you are new to this field, start here with this Beginners SEO Guide provided by Google.
And then follow up with this Advanced SEO Guide, also by Google.

BING has also published some words of wisdom in several guides. Most of them were published many years ago and still remain fundamental when working with SEO, as those statements are still valid today and will never change. You will find links to them further down this article, and here are 3 of them to start with:

⇒ Why is My Site Not in the Index?

⇒ Is SEO The Future? No, And Here’s Why

⇒ 10 SEO Myths Reviewed

This last one above is essential to understand, as it lists the 10 main myths the whole SEO industry is built.

Once you understand the basics and your website is published online, just head directly to the recommendations that search engines provide to you for free – simply because it is in their best interest to make available to you their best recommendations – instead of listening to pseudo SEO gurus that will simply interpret those recommendations in order to sell you some killer solutions or online courses.

For example, let’s take the generic search “rent a car” and enter it in Google’s search box.
Immediately, both Google and Bing will list some “predictions”, based on other similar and popular searches and, of course, the location from where you connect:

TIP: you can get lots more predictions if you add an asterisk (*) at the end of your query or all letters of the alphabet, one after the other (ex. rent car *, rent car a, rent car b, etc…).

Then, if you scroll down the first search results page, you’ll also get “related searches” both at Google and Bing that are what other visitors, at the same location as you, are using for similar queries:

Those are, in fact, the basic keywords (or keyphrases) your site should integrate somehow into your pages if you offer, for example, “car rental services in Phnom Penh, Cambodia”.

Many sites will try to sell “keyword ideas” for your website, while this is freely available from search engines directly!
Go to the source and type your business keywords. You’ll immediately get all other keyword search combinations you need – for free!

How keywords work

There is a lot of confusion about keywords and misunderstandings about their usage for websites nowadays.

In the early days of the internet and search engines, websites were using a specific “meta tag” entry for keywords. Meta tags are information in different fields provided for search engines in order to help them understand what your site is all about, as a website description for instance, but also whether your site should be indexed or not. They are listed when you right-click on any website and select the option “View page source”. Keywords were supposed to somehow define the nature of a website and help search engines understand what the content is all about, in the early days of the internet.

Meta tags with keywords can still be found in legacy websites such as Myspace for instance in this screenshot:

Do they really think that Google robots still need to read those keywords in order to understand what Myspace is all about? The funny thing is that if you search with 2 of those main keyphrases together, “creative community empowering expression” you won’t even get the Myspace website in search results – at all!

Search engines became far more “intelligent” over the years, and those meta tags relating to keywords have definitely been abandoned, and search engines DO NOT TAKE THEM INTO ACCOUNT ANYMORE. Don’t waste your time filling in keyword tags for your website. The reason has been 2-fold: on one hand, website owners were adding pure nonsense in those keywords – ex, “the best X product/service” – and on the other hand, search engine algorithms have greatly evolved – especially with AI – and can now easily understand what your website is all about without having to describe your content to them.

This has been widely reported over the years in specialised websites, and the CEO of Yoast, the most popular SEO plugin for WordPress, explained everything very clearly a couple of years ago in this article that is a must-read before you move forward with keywords. And his conclusion says it all and also perfectly summarises this current article:

No worries, because today, SEO consists of many other tactics that do have an impact. Because the reality is, that if you’re trying to rank for any term that’s even only a little competitive, meta keywords won’t help. You should write engaging, meaningful content on a technically well-optimized platform and get good links and social engagement. That’s what builds great rankings, meta keywords have nothing to do with it.

But keywords are nothing more than words or phrases that best describe or relate to your business and the services/products you are selling. If your pages do this job correctly, those keywords will be automatically found by search engines. But you are probably not alone offering the same services and probably also not the only one in the same region!

That’s why you need to carefully search all keyphrases that may be used in search queries by visitors that will result in your website being listed in Search Engine Result Pages (SERP) and then carefully and wisely use them inside your pages, static and dynamic.

Don’t think that using the phrase “best XXX in Phnom Penh” all over your website will help! In fact, this is called “keyword stuffing” and will result in a negative ranking because your site will be blacklisted. You need to prove that you are the best in this field or, at least, that your offer corresponds to what most people are searching for. And this can be achieved only by creating valuable content that corresponds to what visitors are searching on the internet and that will help build authority in your specific field.

Content, content and even more content!

Content is King and more content is better – but not always!
Because only quality content will help build your site’s authority (see below).

Usually, and especially for corporate businesses, websites are built with two sorts of content: static and dynamic.

Static pages are those that describe your business and offer references about your address and the way for visitors to get in touch: Homepage, Services and/or Products, About us, Contact us, etc.
Dynamic pages are mainly those found in your News or Blog section: periodic news articles that relate to your business that will help you stay in touch with your customers, reach new ones and mainly build authority in the sector you are active in.

https://ppdesigners.com/5-ways-to-keep-visitors-on-your-website/

Income School is a group of people specialised in creating successful blogs based on quality content, and they are also running a course called Project 24. Even if you are not publishing the same sort of blogs as they are successfully doing, you can learn a lot for your corporate or business website by following their recommendations, as they result of years of experimentation and successful implementation.

They are regularly publishing videos that are based on their research and results, like this one:

The more content you publish, the better. But not “any” content. Articles that relate to your business sector, your own activities and special timely opportunities and offers, for instance. As Income School describes in this video, there are essentially 2 sorts of articles you’ll have to publish for a successful “Content Mix”:

Long content doesn’t always win, but good content usually does. Great content means well-optimised for your target keywords AND useful to your audience. Long forms of content are helpful in ranking and should be part of every SEO strategy, but should not be the core of it. Therefore, it’s important to focus mainly on user concerns. In other words, meaningful content is more important than the number of words.

https://ppdesigners.com/fact-check-people-dont-spend-much-time-reading-web-pages/

Building authority

When other websites link to your own, it becomes a positive vote of confidence, and it is called backlink. This is because it showcases to search engines that websites that link to you trust your business and your information. This is one of the easiest ways that Google evaluates the reputation of a business. The variety, quality – based on the respective reputation level of each external website – and the number of backlinks that are targeted to a website allow search engines to interpret how well websites are being optimised and the type of information the site is about, and whether the user will find the information useful, translating to bad or good bounce rates.

Authority is a qualitative measure that strengthens the overall ranking and visibility of a website. One of the core tactics of SEO professionals is to establish and boost authority. Other aspects of authority are informative content and building high-quality and effective links. However, you should remember that authority alone cannot guarantee search visibility. Authority is founded on two factors, namely page authority and domain authority.

Page Authority: This is basically a metric that predicts how well web pages rank on the SERPs or search engine results pages. Higher page authority tends to increase the ranking potential of a prospective web page.

Domain Authority: This is a search engine ranking factor that is based on the size, age, and popularity of the domain. The domain authority of all the pages in a website is usually the same.

This means that there is a difference between ranking well “overall” with your website and getting good results for specific dynamic posts or static pages.

How do Search Engines determine trust and authority?

Search engines will determine how trustworthy your website is based on the number of backlinks that your website content has. If your website or specific pages of your website are linked from authoritative and credible websites, then the search engines will conclude that your site is also authoritative. Additionally, they will gauge trust based on how established the website is. Generally, the older your site is, the higher the authority.

Building a relationship with prominent leaders in your niche industry usually takes time. This is true, especially for the type of valuable relationships that you require to earn links from their websites. Furthermore, it takes lots of time to prove that you can offer accurate and trustworthy information that is valuable to link to. High-authority websites never give out links without careful consideration and thought. Therefore, you must invest serious amounts of time reaching out to editors before they agree to link to your website.

Usually, when your website reaches a high authority level, it will automatically create backlinks.

Where and how to find content ideas

Publishing regular news articles (aka blogging) is a perfect way for businesses to attract new clients to their websites. However, you need fresh and informative content if you want a successful marketing strategy. The best business blog is one that does not sell but shows consumers why they should choose your business rather than the competition.

Blog posts are quite beneficial to businesses since they can help to showcase the personal side of their organization that many clients do not see. You can help consumers know what the organisation stands for, its mission and vision, and the best takeaways that clients get when they engage with your company. You can also use blog posts to create value for both new and existing clients by thinking about what your audience what to know and creating informational content for your blogs.

https://ppdesigners.com/why-do-i-need-to-publish-news-articles-on-my-website/

Additionally, news articles and blog posts allow businesses to learn more about their clients and convert them into valuable leads. You can use them to communicate with clients and discover the topics that really interest them. You can also use blog posts to generate leads and boost your sales by building email lists for your email marketing campaigns. Here are ideas of articles that can help to bring new visitors to your website and enable you to build solid customer relationships.

“How to” articles or tutorials

Interviews

Share your company story

Dos and Don’ts

Reviews

A comprehensive series regarding your products or services

Listicles

FAQ posts

Compare and contrast posts

About the local region

Myths and misconceptions regarding your industry (ex. this present article!)

Customer testimonials or success stories

Behind the scenes or a day in the life of your business

Current industry projections and trends

Informative case studies

Pros and cons

Interesting statistics related to your industry

Invite guest posts from a loyal customer or employee

A free checklist, tips list, or template

Today, consumers are no longer swayed by traditional ads. Instead, most internet users tend to interact with businesses through custom content on specially curated blogs or social media sites. Blog content now allows businesses to connect with their target audience, offer information regarding new products or services, and give lots of giveaways. With valuable articles, an organisation can drive an impact regardless of its niche industry.

Finding topics related to your sector is not an easy task and requires some investigation. Search what your competition is doing and what sort of articles or news posts they are publishing. Otherwise, search at content aggregators in a particular theme. For instance, if your business is about “car rental”, just head to QUORA and search this term as in this example.

In Google, just use their search engine to show you what other people are searching for a given topic. Just modify your query to be a question, like for the example above, “rent a car” just type this instead “how to rent a car in Cambodia” and you’ll get a new section called “People also ask” that suggests several topic ideas for your new articles:

And one well-kept secret about a particular type of articles that rank high is finally revealed in this video, again by Income School:

We have experienced exactly the same sort of results here at this website: to date, we have only a single article that is a result of specific research, and it is, by far, the best ranking in organic search on our website. It’s an article about the Surprising Desktop vs Mobile Internet Usage Growth in Cambodia, published last year.

Do not confuse visibility with ranking high or gaining traffic!

SEO is about ranking in search results, and this does not directly relate to traffic. You can artificially get lots of traffic and still poorly rank in search results.

For instance, there are many different services on the internet where you can buy social signals for your website or social fan pages, which will drive additional traffic to your site. This does not bring any kind of long-term effect, but it can help you to increase your site rankings for a short time.

In fact, the main reason why the majority of people are getting involved in SEO is visibility. There are even many companies that offer SEO services, which is completely misleading because it’s not what search engine optimisation is all about. The goal of good SEO implementation is to be found by customers who need your service or product. If you’re trying to get thousands or millions of customers who are looking for things that you don’t offer, you’ll fail.

Visibility with a perfectly designed website and gaining traffic or ranking in search are two sides of the same coin. However, they consist of different actions, and they are related to different marketing aspects. In some situations, these terms are used together when referring to a similar set of activities, and this can be quite confusing, especially for individuals who are not familiar with them.

What is better website visibility?

Better visibility is a major part of a digital marketing strategy, and knowledge of it is crucial regardless of the area of online marketing you specialise in. To enhance visibility on Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) or organic traffic, businesses must invest in search engine optimisation. This means that it is important for businesses to optimise their website to ensure that it becomes highly visible for relevant search engine searches.

What is the website ranking on SRPs and gaining traffic?

Website ranking is a perfect way for businesses to reach their target audience. This mainly involves paid techniques to boost the visibility of the website. The most commonly used tool is advertising. To boost the traffic or ranking of the business website, selected keywords are targeted. When users search for the keywords, the website is pushed by putting an ad on it. Different strategies can be used to increase traffic on a website, for example, PPC or Pay-Per-Click. Ads can be used to promote your business website if the site is competing with well-established sites.

Website visibility and ranking, or traffi,c basically refer to different advertising approaches. Website ranking and traffic mainly involve paid advertising, while website visibility refers to acquiring, monitoring, and analysing unpaid or organic traffic patterns. If your website is new, it is best that you prioritise your PPC campaigns first since it will take time for your SEO rankings to be established. However, this does not mean that you completely ignore SEO during the initial stages of your website, since both are important and complement each other.

The quest for Ranking First on search engine results is no longer important

For years, business owners have been battling to achieve the NUMBER 1 rankings on search engines.

The problem here and today is that this notion of “rank first” doesn’t mean anything anymore, as it is fully dependent on several other factors that you, the website owner, have no control over.

Especially:
– what query will people use?
– from where, which country or location, will visitors connect to the search engine?
– what is the search history of the browser they are using?

Although there are many benefits of ranking number one on Google or other search engines, there are other essential things that businesses should focus on. There is too much competition for this spot and this means that you will spend lots of time, resources, and energy trying to beat the competition.

Unlike in the past, organic rankings today are no longer the most noticeable on search engine result pages. New search entries such as Google’s knowledge graph box, rich answers, and searchers are now more eye-catching and will get more clicks compared to number one rankings on SERPs.

In addition, targeting keywords is now more difficult than it was before. This means that you must find a keyword selection that has lots of traffic and very little competition, which is difficult in today’s world. Furthermore, SEO has also changed, and Google focuses on the most relevant content rather than exact matches. This means that you need to constantly update your SEO strategy.

Any organisation wants to get more leads and boost their sales. Therefore, you need to stop thinking about short-term goals such as ranking number one on Google. You should be focusing more on long-term goals like getting more customers and building solid relationships with them. You must ensure that your marketing efforts maximise your return on investment and the amount of cash that you are getting from search results. This is why you must employ strategies that will enable you to show up on Google and other areas of the internet as often as possible to acquire more leads and new clients.

Some businesses can rank number one on Google without spending lots of cash or other resources and this is great. However, you should never stress yourself or spend lots of cash just to get the first rank on Google. There are many other marketing strategies that will give you value for money and will yield better results.

Main reasons why search engine results never look the same

Most people get confused about the different results that Google returns for each user using the same search queries and keywords. You can expect keywords to be different for users in different regions and counties. However, search results can be quite different from users in the same room. Search engine results can be affected by the following.

Location

Based on your location, the local version of Google results will be different. Your search may rank first in Google.us but may not be seen on Google.com. Website users must focus on more than just ranking first on SERPs because google detects the geographical locations of its users and offers customized results. This means that a user in New York will see different results from one in London.

Relevance on SERPs

Google strives to display content that is relevant to its users. Search engines determine whether your website content is relevant or not by looking at the keywords you have used and the topics that your website covers. You need to keep your web content relevant to your target audience by using keyword searches to find applicable topics that are valuable to your audience.

Algorithm Changes

Search engine algorithms are constantly changing to keep up with the changes to the web and how people search it. Major updates like Penguin and Panda will take place after every few months, but there are small tweaks made continuously. Therefore, those people who are using a version of Google where some algorithm changes have been made may see different results from those will a different version.

Personalization

The search results from search engines are personalized based on the previous searches of the users. The search history is stored for up to 180 days. Google will learn your habits and will prioritize these websites whenever it delivers future results. Although this boosts the user experience, website owners must understand the implications when it comes to the placement of their website in the search rankings.

It is important for website owners to know the factors that affect why users get different search results. However, there are limitations to what website owners can do about them. It is always best to focus on factors that you have control of and be aware that ranking in Google and other search engines will always vary between users. Therefore, focus on more than just trying to rank first on the SERPs.

In a Wrap

The number one position on search engine results (SERP) has always been a treasured possession. However, this should not be where most of your business resources are channelled owing to the complexity of the algorithms of major search engines. Today, there are many other avenues that also promise better and higher conversations. For example, Facebook has now become the leading social media traffic referring source on the World Wide Web today.

This simply means that businesses need to diversify their traffic sources and move beyond search engines. Email marketing and social media marketing are now quite promising for those that desire huge customer engagement, fewer bounce rates, and more sales.

There is More to Ranking Than Just Struggling to Rank First on the Search Results

Every website owner wants their website to rank first in the search engine results pages. However, your website will not rank higher if you keep chasing every new Google update. Getting to the first position will only make sense if you consider the search terms used in queries and where your visitors are searching from.

Although these may not seem like SEO-focused strategies, they can guarantee better rankings on SERPS and help to drive visitors to your website.

Here are a few strategies that can help you rank better on the search engines.

Determine Who Your Readers Are

To have a converting website, you need to know who your readers are and what they want. When you have actual data about the readers, you can tailor your web content to suit their needs. You should gather demographic data for your business, including age, gender, location, family size, education level, income level, and marital status.

You can then use this demographic data to come up with a user persona. This will help you to develop content that you will have an easy time choosing the tone, length, and format, since you have a better understanding of your target audience.

https://blogs.bing.com/webmaster/April-2012/8-Social-and-SEO-myths-reviewed

Identify Queries That Your Target Users Are Asking

Another important thing is to identify the questions that are relevant to your business and those that your target clients are asking. You can then provide in-depth answers to these questions in knowledge hub pages, a detailed FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) page or blog posts on your website. Your content may just end up being a featured snippet.

Opt for Long-tail keywords

You should go for long-tail keywords that have lower competition and higher traffic. The more competition there is for a specific keyword, the more challenging it will be for your website to rank on the first search results page. When you focus on long-tail keywords that are unique to your business or industry, you will have a higher chance of getting your brand in front of web users who need your services or products.

Follow the data

You must follow the data if you want to rank higher on the SERPs. In most cases, what actually works and what we think our audience wants are very different. This is why you need to look at the numbers and what they are saying, look at both qualitative and quantitative data, and see what your clients are telling you. You should then test what the data tells you, even if it seems to be going against SEO.

When you pay attention to your search engine optimisation strategies, you will find that users notice your website links and this will result in a higher click-through rate, better visibility in the SERPs and more converting customers. The truth is that there are plenty of unconventional techniques that will get your business in front of the traffic you are craving. You just have to be creative and find ways that will get you the results you are looking for.

Every Business Website Should Have a FAQ Page

FAQ or “Frequently Asked Questions” is a page that is incorporated on websites to ensure commonly asked questions are answered. This is a breathing and living document that must be regularly updated. The information provided on this page must be current and should reflect the issues that customers are experiencing with supportive and relevant responses that address these customer queries. An FAQ page is an opportunity to connect with your clients and reflect the personality of your brand and business. Read on to know why every business should have an FAQ page on their website.

Address the Needs of Your Readers

To enhance the usability of your website, increase conversions, and enhance your business authority, you must have a great FAQ section. The FAQ page is the main hub where your clients go with their concerns and questions. One of the leading reasons why businesses need a FAQ question is to address the needs of your audience. People will go to this page when they need more information regarding your services and products. Therefore, you must ensure that the FAQ page contains high-quality content regarding your business. Ensure that you offer answers to the common questions that your customers are asking. This way, you will ensure that uncertainty does not prevent a sale.

https://ppdesigners.com/faq/

Improves Customer Experience

When you provide answers to commonly asked questions, you can expect users to invest in your services or products without the need for constant communication. You should not occupy our customer service team with these commonly asked and time-consuming questions that can be addressed on the FAQ page.

Boost Online Visibility

One of the best ways of boosting your online visibility is by creating an FAQ page on the website. When users are continuously searching for questions that are similar to those on your FAQ page, there is a higher chance that these questions and answers will appear on Google’s search results. This can help to attract more clients to your website, especially those who were not familiar with your business.

Boost Your Trust and Credibility

Today, businesses in every industry strive to earn a credible reputation. You can achieve this by having a FAQ page that has trustworthy and knowledgeable information. Your users will see you as being a leader within the industry. Businesses should use their FAQ section to help their brand earn the trust of customers. This page can be used as the first touchpoint with your clients where you can direct your customers to start a relationship that will transform them into paying customers.

Drive Sales

If you are running an e-commerce business, having or lacking an FAQ page will make or break your sales. The information provided on your page can push users to take the next step of buying your products or services. Conversely, it can make them feel nervous and back out of your page. However, for you to increase your sales, your FAQs must be well-written and succinct. Consumers do not want overloaded copies that will take them lots of time to read through.

What Questions Should Be Answered in Your FAQ Page

When planning an FAQ page, you must ensure that you answer the right questions. Every business is unique and customers will have different needs and concerns. Therefore, you need to develop a list of specific questions that your target market is asking. You can achieve this by spending some time researching first.

You can determine the common questions to ask by checking your customer service phone calls notes and emails to see the questions that frequently come up. You should also take note of where most of your clients seem confused about your products or services. You can also use social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter to ask your followers what is not clear to them regarding your products and services. Additionally, you should check different competitor websites to see the type of questions they have incorporated into their FAQ page.

You can make your website and business stand out by writing an in-depth blog post for every question and then providing a link to the post on your FAQ answers. With this approach, you will provide endless and helpful information to all your users. Furthermore, it keeps your website above the competition owing to a large number of useful pages with SEO-rich content.

With a FAQ page, you will provide your clients with the important information they need. Having a FAQ page shows your clients that you value their concerns and time and have taken the necessary steps to address any issues and questions they may have.

Cost-Effective Multilingual Websites

About 62% of all websites published worldwide are written in English. In Cambodia, English is the second spoken language after Khmer and most websites are using either of those languages or both, depending on the target audience. Having a multilingual website, readable in more than one language, is always challenging both in terms of budget or energy and free alternatives provided by Google are worth considering when fully and wisely integrated into the website’s design.

Creating content in multiple languages and designing a real multilanguage site is very expensive – at least doubles or triples the initial costs – and requires a considerable amount of translation tasks to be carried out not only in the beginning, when creating a new website, but also when updating it, as translation will be required for the texts found in different pages and also for all menus, navigation strings and system messages.

In order to serve pages in different languages, the best cost-effective alternative is to implement the free version of the Google Translation software for websites (the paid version is quite expensive but allows edits and stores translated pages in different locations and servers, allowing them to be indexed by search engines – which is not the case with the free version that translates the whole website “on the fly” – see below).

Pages translated by Google will never be 100% accurate! Accuracy levels obtained depend on the complexity of the original texts as well as the source and target languages. It is safe to assume that translating from/to English, French, German and Spanish will get very satisfactory results, while other languages will get less accurate transcriptions.

Users in SE Asia reported for instance that Japanese translations (mainly from original texts in English) are known to be “embarrassingly wrong”, while Thai, Korean and Vietnamese get quite good results but often idioms and common expressions might get strange results. Khmer texts are also quite decent when translated from English or French but this is not always the case the other way. Getting English or French from Khmer original pages might result in surprising sentences and sometimes nonsense.

In that sense, it is important to consider Google Translation as a “helper ” or “assistant” for visitors whose first language is not the website’s one, like English in most cases, and not as real “human-made translations”.

In addition to delivering translated pages almost instantly, this website addon offers a wide selection of languages to choose from:

Most of the time, we use flags as language selectors and most visitors are aware that they won’t get 100% accurate results as we are now all used to automatic translations tools:

But those flags, although nicely displaying on website pages, as here at this website, might be misleading for some visitors and make them think they will get a real translation.

Website owners wanting to avoid any confusion are offered 3 different language selector alternatives that can dissipate any doubts about the origin of the translation they will get, but that is also less attractive and a bit more invasive:

1 – Floating widget

A small banner can be placed at any page border of the website – usually bottom left/right corners – that reveals the translation flags only when clicked. The text inside the banner is customizable and allows for instance to replace the word “Translate” with something like “Google Translation”.

2. Language switcher with Google branding (with/without flags)

Instead of the flags, or in addition to them, a language switcher dropdown may be used with an added Google branding that clearly identifies the origin of the translations. In such a case, flags are optional.

In some cases, Google branding can also be added without the selector above and by keeping only the flags and the branding below but this requires custom coding and doesn’t fit well with all designs:

3 – Google toolbar added on top of pages

The default Google toolbar can be added on top of pages when clicking on any translation flag. This method can be used in addition to any other method above and also when using only the flags. The result is not very pleasant and doesn’t always well integrate with the website’s layout but it shows up only when the user clicks on a flag and makes it very clear about the origin of the translation he will get.

Using the flags alone is by far the best and most elegant integration for the majority of websites but the above-mentioned solutions offer three alternatives for cases where it is important to highlight the nature of those translations.

Our website is also using those flags, at the top right side above the navigation menu, so feel free to test them here!

The paid version (starting at $99.90/year – as of 04/2024) of this software offers several advantages over the free version and might be worth implementing in some particular cases:

Bilingual or Multilingual SEO – Enable search engine indexing

Neural machine translations with human-level translation quality

You can have a sub-directory (example.com/es/) or sub-domain (es.example.com) URL structure

Translate URLs aka slug translation is possible (example.com/about-us → example.es/sobre-nosotros)

Ability to manually correct translations

In context translation interface (make corrections without losing the context)

Translate metadata (meta keywords, meta description)

Centralized Translation Cache – We revise and improve translations over time

Similar features are also offered by another WordPress software called TranslatePress which also integrates with Google Translate and offers the ability to refine and edit translations manually (euros 89/year for 1 site as of 04/2024)).

For reference, the alternative for a full manual translation software is cheaper but requires a lot more work for the client as he needs to translate every single bit of text in any additional language.

WPML is the most widely used software of this kind:

Recommended package: Multilingual CMS – www.wpml.org/purchase (euros 99/year as of 04/2024).

The top 10 reasons visitors are leaving your site within the first few seconds

Has Statcounter’s Session Replay revealed a high number of short visits and bounces on your website? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons your visitors may not be sticking around for more than a few seconds and what you can do about it.

1️⃣ The visitor was a bot

In many cases, extra short visits can be from web crawlers or bots. You can set Statcounter to ignore visits so they don’t skew your stats and use up your log or your monthly session replay quota.

To do this, log in to Statcounter and click on your project. In the Project Config menu at the bottom of the blue left sidebar, select Ignore Visits. Scroll down to the last section Ignore Visits by Crawlers & Bots and make sure the checkbox is checked and select Save Settings.

2️⃣ You’re sending paid traffic to your homepage

We’ve talked before about why it’s vital to create dedicated landing pages for your digital ad campaigns.

If you’re sending your paid traffic to your homepage or any other page that isn’t targeted towards your visitors and the message in your ad, you’re encouraging bounces and leaving money on the table.

Paid traffic converts well only if your post-click landing page is focused on a single purpose and conversion goal, has a clear visual and content match between ad and landing page and has an obvious single call to action.

3️⃣ The page took too long to load

Mobile traffic has long surpassed desktop traffic. With the average mobile visitor expecting websites to load within 3 seconds, it’s crucial to put some thought into how you can optimize your site for faster loading times. Not only will a faster loading site lower your bounce rate and increase conversions, but page speed is also a confirmed Google search ranking factor.

Optimizing images, minifying code, and removing render-blocking JavaScript are among some of the methods we recommend in this guide: Boost your rankings and conversions by increasing your page speed.

4️⃣ There was no clear call to action.

Attention is an extremely scarce resource and visitors who find your landing pages through organic or paid search are making split-second decisions. If they can’t find the purpose of your page and what to do next, they are not likely to stick around.

Creating a single call-to-action button will help guide your visitors along their journey to becoming a customer. To create a high-converting call-to-action button:

Make the button colour contrast with the rest of the page.

Make the button large.

Start the text with a verb. E.g. ‘Subscribe Now’, ‘Learn More’, ‘Try it for Free’.

Make it clear what happens next.

5️⃣ The content was overwhelming

Session Replay shows us exactly how our visitors digest content. Rather than reading every word and scrolling in a linear fashion from top to bottom as we might expect, online reading patterns are rather frantic. Visitor’s tend to scan content and scroll up and down, mostly taking notice of headings, bold text, bulleted lists, and links.

Creating well-formatted content using brief paragraphs, punctuated with headings, lists and images helps our visitors to engage more with our content without getting overwhelmed.

6️⃣ The content was irrelevant

Advancements in the Google search algorithm in recent years enable the search engine to recognise the intent behind a search, based not just on the keywords but also on how they are phrased in the search box.

For example, if the words “How to…” precede the keywords, Google knows that the searcher is looking for an answer in the form of a guide or instructional video. Recognising Search Intent allows the algorithm to serve up different types of results relevant to the search.

Optimizing for keywords and search intent is the best way to make sure the content on your landing pages is relevant for your organic visitors.

7️⃣ Popup windows and chatbots were a nuisance

Tools designed to catch your visitors’ attention such as popups and automated chatbots can help with engagement when used sparingly and at the right time. They can also be an unwelcome nuisance and a reason to abandon your site. Windows that pop up immediately when a page loads are rarely a good idea.

The best way to know if a tool like this is working is to introduce it gradually on a single page and watch your visitors’ reactions using Session Replay. You’ll be able to see if they ignore or dismiss it or if it helps solve their problem.

8️⃣ The site wasn’t mobile responsive

Hopefully, it goes without saying at this stage but if your site doesn’t adapt to mobile devices, not only will mobile visitors abandon it without a second thought, Google gives preference in its search results to mobile-friendly websites.

9️⃣ The navigation was confusing or hard to find

Adapting sites to be mobile-friendly has meant displaying fewer navigation links on the page and sometimes hiding navigation items behind menus. This is good in one sense in that it forces us to really think about what’s important on the page and remove any clutter. However, when we place important navigational links behind menus, they often become hard to find.

Make sure the key pages on your site are easy to find and as mentioned above, create a clear call-to-action on the page to help guide visitors where they need to go next.

🔟 Your visitor found what they were looking for

Short visits and bounces are not always bad. If your visitor was looking for something specific such as your phone number, email address or directions to your business, their visit will have served its purpose and a short visit to your contact page could be considered a success.

Statcounter’s Session Replay takes the guesswork out of why your visitors are leaving your site early by showing you exactly what they did during their visit.

Statcounter is currently in the process of rolling out Session Replay to all Statcounter members.

If it’s not available to you now it will be available very soon. Look for the play button icon on each session in your Visitor Activity and Visitor Paths pages.

Fact-check:
“People Don’t Spend Much Time Reading Web Pages”

Research shows that on average people spend about 45 seconds on a website. Even though this may be true, the time spent on a website depends on many different factors. The truth is that people will spend more time reading web pages that offer valuable content and will quickly leave websites that offer nothing new and rather ultra-short pages with not much value.

The bottom line is you want visitors to spend more time on your website. How much time do YOU spend on a website? With the average time spent on a website being just 45 seconds, you need to know whether your website conveys what you are offering within this time AND what your visitors will find in there that will make them want to discover more.

But this value of 45 seconds is, in fact, half true. It’s just an absolute value.
Because there is a huge amount of visitors that just click on random links and then leave. Those visits are not relevant to the overall interest your website might have as they are far more important than the ones who are really interested in the content you are publishing. That’s why we always need to analyse our visitors’ stats and see what real visitors – the ones that your website is targeting – are interested in, which pages they visit and how much time they spend at each one of them.

Your Website Should Convey Your Value Prepositions

The Human Attention Span (2018)

Do you ever feel like our attention spans are getting shorter? It’s not just your imagination; new research has revealed that human beings are, indeed, flakier than ever before!

In fact, the average human attention span has shrunk by nearly a quarter in just 15 years, and we’re now lagging behind the humble goldfish in terms of being able to focus on a task or object.

Check out the infographic in this article to get all the details – if you manage to concentrate all the way to the end!

Today, many people spend their time reading website page that conveys valuable information and content. If your website does not offer what visitors are looking for then you will experience higher bounce rates. This is why many people are scrambling to add long content to their websites in an effort to attract more new readers, get more leads that can be turned into actual customers, and get additional email subscribers.

Although the popularity of inbound marketing is still growing, the flood of content promises to be even bigger in the future. Most people care about learning and what are you doing to help them learn? People want to know what your business is offering that will solve their problems. Therefore, your homepage should showcase the needs of your clients and how your business will address them. Getting people to spend more time on your website is crucial because:

The more you engage people, the more they will see you as an expert in your niche industry and the more trust you will build with your audience.

Dwell time or time spent on your site is a ranking factor for Google’s algorithms. The more time people spend on your site, the more points search engine’s algorithms give your website. If people spend more time on your website, the search engines’ algorithms know and believe that your content is quite interesting. Your site will be ranked higher in the search results because if you find it beneficial, then other people will as well.

So What Is Better For You Short or Long Content?

60% of all organic clicks usually go to the top three organic results. And 75% of web users rarely scroll past the first page of the search engine results. Therefore, if you are getting most of your website visitors from organic search, you should write long content (more than 1,000 words) that will get ranked highly by the search engines.

However, if you have a built-in audience that engages highly with your business on social platforms and your content is interesting enough that it shares itself, then short content (400-600 words) is enough to keep your prospects interacting with your business.

The guys at Income School have done extensive research in that field and have published several videos on Youtube that better explain how things work, like this one:

Find Out What Works For Your Business

If you do not really know whether short or long content works best for your business, you should test it out. You can start by posting about 10 compelling short articles on your website and then add another 10 interesting long articles. You can then watch how they perform with regards to more traffic, which ones get more shares or comments and which articles keep visitors on your website or drive conversions. Ultimately, your target audience will help you determine the type of content you should be creating for your website based on the metrics you get.

Conclusion

We believe that website owners can create more value if they pay close attention to depth instead of breadth. It is not about the number of people who click on your content, but how many people pay attention to your website content. It is more about the number of people that you can make an impression on and connect with that matters.

When you refine your website content, your goal is to keep visitors long enough to persuade them to take the next action and offer an easy process for this action where it is to sign up for services, purchase products, or fill forms. Every page on your business website should engage your audience with the sole purpose of moving them through the buying cycle and concluding with a sale.

5 Ways to Keep Visitors on Your Website

Getting high website traffic is a good thing. Equally important is getting visitors to stay on your website for a while. When people stick around your website for longer, it also increases the chances of you converting your visitors to buyers. Here are 5 things you can do to ensure that people stay longer on your website:

1 – Give visitors ways to connect, subscribe and follow what’s happening

Roughly, 70-80% of people who visit your website will leave and never come back again. But when you get someone to subscribe, you can make them keep coming to your blog over and over. As a website owner, your goal should be to get as many people as possible to keep coming back to your website since this is one of the ways you will be able to convert them into customers.

The more people keep coming back to your site, the more engaged they will be with your content and the more willing they will be to do business with you.

There are several ways you can get subscribers. These include:

Email subscriptions for newsletters and news posts at your website

Social media follows by sharing your website news posts to your social media accounts

RSS feeds

Make it easy for people to sign up as subscribers on your website and followers at your social media accounts.

2 – Make a good first impression

It takes only a few seconds for a visitor to your site to determine whether they like or are interested at your website or not. Making a good first impression is not that hard, but you have to carefully plan and strategize your website. Some of the things to keep in mind include:

Using the right colours, corresponding to your image or brand.

A good design – A good layout with clear structure and navigation, without distracting animations and effects.

Good typography that is legible and pleasant.

The idea is to portray that your website is professional, credible and trustworthy.

3 – Make your site look as inviting as possible

Show your readers that you are committed to your website and to delivering the best content to your audience. You can do this by ensuring that you have a professional design.

Also, ensure that your content is easily scannable, for instance, by breaking up your content into short and easy-to-read sentences and paragraphs, use of subheadings and bulleted lists.

In addition, you can make use of visuals in pages, such as using photographs and videos.

You should also publish consistently since if you fail to post regularly, readers might think that the website is dormant.

4 – Link your articles

Internal linking to old articles on your website is a way of bringing back old posts to life. You can link to related old content that you have on your blog. This way, your readers will get more information on subjects that they are interested in. If you think that the reader will benefit from any previous posts that you have written, be sure to link to it in your new posts.

For instance, look at the bottom of this article and you’ll 3 different “related articles” listed there.

5 – Work on your “About Us” page

One of the most viewed pages on most websites is the “About” page. Your audience uses your About page to learn more about the website owner, what the website is about and why they should listen to you.

Through your About page, you can position your brand image and sell your products and services and also include your image or an image that represents your brand.

When people search for your company name, they might end up on your About page. Therefore, this is one of the best ways to get organic SEO traffic.

Conclusion

There are lots of ways to keep people on your website longer. Using multiple strategies can help to decrease your bounce rate and increase your conversions.

Proven Ways to Grow Your Website Traffic

If you ask a website owner what they would like to achieve most, a majority of them will tell you that they want more traffic and better ranking in search engines search results. With high traffic comes better visibility, more customers and better performance. But traffic does not come automatically when you first launch your website. You have to implement some tools and ideas in order to make your website more attractive and worth visiting.

✅ Engage with your audience and find out what they need

People like to have a sense of community. They want to feel involved and to be given an opportunity to say what is on their minds. That is why having a Facebook page, connected to your website, where you can engage your readers is a good idea. Starting conversations with your readers will help to increase your traffic as people will be able to ask questions and get answers to their questions.

When people do comment, be polite and respond to their comments. When your visitors notice that you are paying attention to what they have to say, they will become more active and engaged and keep coming back for more.

✅ Create content that brings valuable information

One of the things that will keep people coming back to your website is the value that you provide them with. Publish new articles regularly and keep older ones updated. Your posts should be informative as well as entertaining and also provide your readers with a unique perspective.

Share as much knowledge, insights and experiences as you can. One of the ways that you can provide value to your readers is by providing them with solutions to their problems in your specific sector. You can also show them what is working for you and how.

✅ Engagement and relationship tools (like email subscriptions)

Do not focus so much on content marketing that you forget about email marketing. Email marketing is a powerful tool that can help you to connect with your subscribers and give you a significant spike in traffic. A friendly email reminder about your new blog post or product or service can get your audience flocking to your website.

Loyal customers can help to increase your overall revenue by a significant percentage as compared to average customers. Engaging your subscribers through email is a way of building a relationship between your brand and your customers.

✅ Post regular news and maintain archives

In order to get more people to engage on your website, you need to post updated news on a regular basis. Make sure that you post on a predictable schedule so that people know when to visit your website to view your posts. For instance, if you post on Thursdays, people will know that they should come to your website on Thursdays to get the latest news.

In addition, update your old blog posts on a regular basis. Old blog posts usually bring in a lot of traffic. Therefore, have a regular maintenance schedule. By adding information, links and images to a blog post, you make it more useful to your readers. This helps to get rid of outdated information and it also helps to decrease the bounce rate.

✅ Collaborate with others

Collaborating with others can help you to improve your online exposure. There are several ways to collaborate with other people. For example, you can choose to guest post on other websites that have a larger audience than yours.

You can also collaborate when it comes to giveaways. This means that the recipients of the prizes will receive a much bigger giveaway. Therefore, people will have a higher incentive to participate in the giveaway. This will also be a chance to help you promote your blog and gain more subscribers and followers.

There are several ways to grow your blog. Experiment and see what works best for you and adapt your website’s content accordingly. Remember, a website is never finalized or static but rather a perpetual work in progress!
